We are now taking lifeguard applications for summer 2026 at the Karns Lions Club Pool.
Job Description & Requirements
- Lifeguards must be 15 to be certified.
- Lifeguards will work during regular pool hours Mon-Sat 10a-6p and Sun 1p-6p.
- Guards will also take turns working any after hours parties M-Su 6:30p-8:30p.
- Guards scheduled to close will work approximately 15-30 minutes after closing to clean outdoor areas and restrooms. Clean up is also required after evening parties.
- Guards must work shifts as scheduled. Must arrive early enough to be ready and on your stand at the appointed time. Multiple unexcused absences or last minute schedule changes are grounds for dismissal.
- Guards are responsible for checking and cleaning restrooms and any additional duties assigned by manager when rotated off the stand. Other duties may include checking playground restrooms and emptying playground and parking lot trash.
- Full- and part-time positions available. We will never schedule you more than 40 hours a week.
- Pay starts at $14/hour.
- The season starts May 23 and will end in early August.

Applicants must be certified or be enrolled in an upcoming certification class to apply.
- Hiring priority will be given to those who complete lifeguard certification before the pool opens on May 23.
- Must be 15 by the last day of your class to receive certification.
- Ski/Scuba Center has the following classes scheduled: April 24-26, May 15-17, May 29-31
- Ski/Scuba Center offers a recertification class on May 9.
- YMCA of East TN has a class scheduled April 24-26 (must take swimming pre-test on April 6 or April 9)
- Additional organizations in the area also offer classes. We will not accept certifications from online-only courses without in-pool training.
Returning guards from 2025, if you haven't already, please let us know if you intend to return. You may text Karen or send us a GroupMe message. Check your certification expiration date!!!! Your certification lasts 2 years and must be renewed before the expiration to avoid taking the entire course over from scratch. In addition to Ski/Scuba's May 9 recert class, some facilities may also allow you to join the last day of a regular certification course for your recertification.
